Repo Boats For Sale and Their Costs: Current Prices Part 3
Repo Boats For Sale and Their Costs: Current Prices Part 3
Some repo boats are cheap. Some are not. The Ericson 30+ is not cheap.
It is a boat built and marketed to be competitive in both styling and price with the majority of other quality production boats in its size
range.
Market research indicates that the boat should enjoy a satisfactory volume of sales against other boats of her ilk.
Based on our experience, we made up an inventory for our "new boat." We tried to avoid idiosyncrasies (one practical boater/writer hates
electronics and electrics, and carries nothing on his 30-footer but running lights—backed up with oil lamps—but he also carries a sextant and
three chronometers).
Instead, we made the equipment list representative of the way most buyers of such a sized boat will equip their boat: not too spartan, not too
exotic, and useful for most needs.
We did not include some back-up repo boats for sale gear such as lead line and patent log; these are items a boater may already own or may opt
not to buy, at least not as part of the original purchase.
The thinking that went into our inventory was based on certain basic premises.
We feel, for instance, that sails are power and should not be subject to scrimping, even for a boat to be used exclusively for cruising.
Therefore, we included a full boat inventory with the gear necessary to handle it.
We also tried to avoid gear which is brand new to the market or is, to us, merely "in fashion."
Because one's life as well as the safety of the vessel can depend on them, we have specified a full complement of ground tackle and navigation
and safety gear.
A regular distress signal set and a special flare gun are listed, as is man overboard equipment.
Full electronic navigation and communication facilities are also included.
Also, we have added a second bilge pump and upgraded all through-hull fittings with lever seacocks.
On the other hand, because they require extraordinary maintenance and are not essential even for racing, we have not put electronic wind
instruments such as anemometers and apparent wind indicators on the list.
Above all, we want to stress that the list of repo boats for sale gear we have compiled should not in any way be construed as items endorsed
by our website.
The criteria we used in their selection are that the items, for the most part, are widely recognized and available to boaters/consumers, and
that they are the items a sailor is apt to consider in his shopping.
